Our vision
Blue Planet evolved into a company as a way to express and share two great passions of its founder Jaret Leah. Environmentalism & Conservation | Design & Construction of beautiful outdoor spaces After many years of researching and implementing many composting, recycling and energy saving lifestyle choices in his own family’s life, Jaret wanted to share his inspiration and learnings. The environmental footprint pyramid is both a guideline on where to start and a self evaluation process to consider the power of our choices.
Preface The planet has been referred to as “Mother Earth”. The first astronauts inspired observations stated earth from space looks like a “living breathing organism”. Satellite photos from space of some of our largest city’s i.e. New York, interestingly look very similar to human cancerous tissue. ..gray and lifeless…go ahead Google earth for yourself and then Google the Rocky Mountains or a rain forest. There can be no question, earth is a living organism. Where to start ? The environmental footprint pyramid gives a guide as to where to start. This model shows the basic, easiest and most economical ways to get the ball rolling in your own family’s life. ( For single people, you and your goldfish or cats are considered a family.) If you have no goldfish, you are part of a global community……still family. Sorry no one is exempt. Power of Thoughtful Choices. This model also has a series of questions to ponder on. We do not have time to dwell on past, poor, uninformed choices. We cannot judge each other as we are all ignorant of past situations where we dropped the ball,..asbestos, tobacco, clear cut forestry methods, mining tailings, processed fatty and salt laden foods. The mistakes of the aforementioned are not by no means the sole responsibility of the few corporations or governments who abused and polluted. The greater responsibility in past poor choices is the thousands of consumers who asked no questions, purchased, used and ate products that hurt ourselves and our environment and blindly trusted governments, corporations and used mass marketing as an objective evaluation source. Those days need to come to an end. Taking Action. Collectively individuals
taking action are more powerful in getting things done than governments.
Let the governments policies play catch up and follow the people’s
beliefs. What can we do here and now if we truly are the top of the
food chain on the planet. With knowledge gained from the past , we
can take care of the food chain, take care of ourselves and take
care of our children’s future.
The foundation of the pyramid. The Easiest and lowest cost changes to reduce your environmental footprint. These are concepts that have been around a long time. Many of these have been practiced since the 1970’s environmental movement began. Many of these are standard operating procedure in European countries and other parts of the world. What is our explanation or excuse why 35 years later we cannot follow these very basic principles?
